Maritime authorities seized some 10 tons of fish from a commercial fishing vessel caught illegally operating within the municipal waters of Linapacan on July 27.
Elizer Salilig, BFAR regional director, said the vessel, identified as FB Delber III, was intercepted by a seaborne patrol of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) MIMAROPA Fisheries Protection and Law Enforcement Group (FPLEG) some 7.3 nautical miles off Nanglao, Linapacan.
He said the commercial fishing boat was employing the “paaling” or “lintig” form of fishing which is banned inside the 15-kilometer municipal waters and had a catch of some 10 tons of “dalagang bukid”. He added that its crew of 68, were unlicensed.
“Yung active fishing gear, alam naman nila yong paaling at lintig ay ginagamit doon sa deep, sea tapos gagamitin sa municipal waters. Kung hindi natin huhulihin ‘yan, yong isdang nahuli natin yong ibibenta sa kanila (residents) na alam nila na yung pinasukan nila ay municipal waters,” Salilig said.
The captain and crew of the fishing boat were set to face multiple charges for violating RA 10654 or the Fisheries Code.
