Comelec to resume voter’s registration on November 7

The Commission on Election is ready the continue on Monday, November 7, the registration process for voters participating in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, both of which will end on April 29, 2017, this according to Provincial Comelec Spokesperson Jomel Ordas.

The schedule follows the provision of Comelec Resolution 10166, promulgated on October 25, 2016, which states compliance to Section 8 of the Voter’s Registration Act of 1996, that is, “the personal filing of application of registration of voters shall be conducted daily in the Office of the Election Officer during regular office hours. No registration, however, be conducted during the period starting 120 days before a regular election and 90 days before a special election.”

In a press release, the National Comelec Spokesperson was quoted as saying that there are now around 55 million new voters in the country, including those participating in the SK elections aged 15 to 17 years old. For the May 2016 elections, around 54M registered to vote, with around 3M registered for the barangay and SK level.
