A Grade 11 student of the Palawan Hope Christian School (PHCS) was crowned as this year’s Miss Silka Palawan.

Sabrina Wagner, who placed second runner-up in the same beauty search in 2017, made a successful “comeback,” prevailing over 14 other candidates in the pageant on August 25 at the Robinsons Place-Palawan.

The 17-year old Wagner is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) senior high student who loves to play drums and guitar.

She will represent the province in the national search that will be held in Metro Manila later this year.

The beauty from Barangay Bagong Sikat said she belongs to a conservative family that inspires her to both do well in school and in pursuing a career in modeling.

“I join beauty pageants because I aim to be a professional model and international beauty queen someday,” she said, just like her idol, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Würtzbach.

Like Würtzbach who had to win the Binibining Pilipinas search three times before going home with the Binibining Pilipinas Universe crown, Wagner said it was all right if she only triumphed as the second runner-up winner last year and succeeded as a “comeback” candidate in the Miss Silka Palawan 2018.

She said her admiration of Würtzbach’s confidence to win as the most beautiful woman in the universe became her inspiration to continue despite losing last year.

“It’s about trying your best to claim true success no matter how many times you try and fail as long as you want it,” Wagner said.

In the national Miss Silka pageant, Wagner said she plans to train on building her confidence more as it is going to be a major event with the most beautiful Filipinas competing.

“It’s going to be a different level of battle that’s why I want to build my confidence more,” she said.

The runner-up winners are Maria Veronica Sinajon (1st runner-up); Miss Palawan News candidate Arjane Cafugauan (2nd runner-up); and Xianne Francisco (3rd runner-up).

Second runner-up winner Cafugauan’s stint in the search was supported by Palawan News.

The 19-year old beauty is a first year BS Hospitality Management student at Palawan State University, and a former Sining Palawan dance troupe member.

All candidates were presented on August 3 at the SM City Puerto Princesa, followed by the Talent Night and Swimwear Competition on August 4 and 5 at the NCCC Mall.

Special awards were given on this event, courtesy of major sponsors such as Bong Villanueva Salon, South Sea Pearl Museum, Bead Café, Palawan Real Property, Funland, Kay’s Water World, Juicy Cologne and Palawan News as the official media partner.

The major awards were Miss Congeniality, Best in Talent, Best in Swimwear, Best in Evening Gown and the Highest Silka Votes.

The candidates were serenaded by ABS-CBN Star Magic artist Anjo Damiles during the evening gown competition. The Grand Coronation was hosted by Kareeza Faith “Tita Kim” Tullo.
