The city government has assured the continued development of the newly-inaugurated 63-hectare Balayong People’s Park even beyond the term of the current administration.

Assistant City Administrator Carlo Abogado said during a press briefing Saturday that they are institutionalizing the development of the park, with a resolution already approved by the City Council.

“Sa ngayon ginagawa na ng paraan ng City Council ‘yan. I-institutionalize ang park. May [approved] resolution na rin ‘yon,” said Abogado.

City Architect IV Ezrha Miguel said the entire project has an allocation of over P86-million including national government grants.

The project’s development, she said, is already at 50 percent. She added that there are still spaces for additional structures.

Allocated budgets for additional structures that were previously not part of the master plan are still being programmed for 2022, according to Miguel.

The park currently has its own office in charge of maintaining the park, while both the City Engineering and City Architect offices are still in charge of the unfinished areas of the park. Other sections that are almost finished are the Interactive Water Park, Friendship Park beside the Old City Hall, and the Cascading Park.

Other sections of the park lined up to be built include a skateboarding rink and outdoor food court.

Areas now open to the public are the Forest Park, which includes an elevated walkway leading up to the watchtower.
