City to resolve transfer of Irawan police station

The City government is inviting City PNP Director Senior Superintendent Ronnie Francis Cariaga and Irawan station chief PSINSP Felix Rivera to discuss the implications of the transfer.

The City government will take up next week concerns raised over the removal of the police station in Barangay Irawan to pave way for the ongoing road-widening project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The Irawan police station was compelled to transfer initially to Barangay Luzviminda further north of the City last month before moving back to the city proper at the City Sports Complex as police officials expressed concern this could affect their capability to effectively cover the important areas of the city which needed their presence.

City councilor Nesario Awat, in a privilege speech Monday, sought to invite City PNP Director Senior Superintendent Ronnie Francis Cariaga and Irawan station chief PSINSP Felix Rivera, including local officials of Irawan, to discuss the implications of the transfer.

“Ipapatawag namin sila para maliwanagan tayo. Kasi hanggang hindi natin sila napapakinggan, hindi namin alam ‘yung gagawin namin. Baka mamaya may mga issues na hindi namin alam,” Awat said.

Rivera earlier expressed concern their removal from Irawan could limit their capability to cover areas nearer the city proper which they had been able to do when they were still strategically located there.

“Ang problema lang natin, ‘yung mga constituents natin, malayo. Lalo na ‘yung mga galing ng Sabang iikot pa dun. Kung titingnan natin ‘yung crime-prone areas natin ay Sta. Monica, Tiniguiban, Sicsican, so dun talaga kailangan naka-establish ‘yung office natin,” Rivera said.

Awat said the City government, however, is eyeing to set aside a city government property in Irawan to accommodate a new police station there.

Awat also said that he eyes on temporarily relocating the police station in the barangay hall of the said area so police officers can respond quickly on emergencies and residents can be given a convenience in seeking police services.

“’Yung area natin sa Irawan, magkakaroon sila ng sarili nila doon. So in short, ma-aadress natin, but it will take time. While we are waiting for that, kailangan ma-address na natin ‘yung ibang issue,” Awat said.

“Particularly ‘yung transfer of PNP Irawan. Itong issue na ito, kung inaksyunan ng kapitan baka dun nalang sa area sila na malapit pansamantala. Pangalawa, issue of jurisdiction. Hindi nila ine-entertain kapag hindi nila area. ‘Yun ang liliwanagin natin,” Awat added.
