The city tourism has released a list of cruise ships that will make port visits in Puerto Princesa City in 2020 and 2021.
Data released by the office showed that MV Europa, MV Seaborne Ovation, MV Explorer Dream, Seabourn Sojourn, Star Breeze, MS Noordam, Celebrity Millenium are expected to make a port call on January to December of 2020.
In 2021, MS Noordam, Celebrity Millennium, Silver Spirit, Maasdam, Arcadia, Star Breeze, MS Queen Elizabeth, MV Seabourn Ovation will also visit.
Assistant city tourism officer Demetrio Alvior recently said that during the visit of Le Laperouse that a number of the cruise ships visiting the city is an indication that Puerto Princesa City has been already considered as a destination for ships.
He also said that there are also going to be unexpected visits by other cruise ships.
“It only shows that our city is considered as a cruise ship destination sa buong Pilipinas at isa rin itong sign na talagang gusto nila ang ating lugar. Ngayong taon may 12 cruise ships na pero may mga iba kasi na biglaan lang na pupunta sa atin,” he said.
Earlier, Mayor Lucilo Bayron said the 500-meter cruise ship port under the government’s “Build, Build, Build” big-ticket and high-impact infrastructure initiatives in Puerto Princesa City is already 60 percent complete.
Bayron said the construction is ongoing, but they are hoping that the P1.5 billion cruise ship port being built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be operational by the end of next year.
He said they can transport around 7,000-10,000 in the city.
Alvior said that the development of the port will help boost the tourism industry of the city.
“Kaya nga inaayos natin ang cruise ship port para mas maging maganda ang ating port na paghdadaungan ng mga pangturistang barko. Ngayon mayron ng mga pumunta dito kaya we will going to expand para mas makattract ng turista,” Alvior said.
Meanhile, three other cruise ships are expected to visit the city before the end of the year.
