The city government is inviting the public to celebrate the five-day celebration of the 4th Water Festival which opened Thursday at the Balayong Park.
It is an annual event that promotes camaraderie among players of different water sports.
The festival which opened February 28 will be until March 3 to celebrate water sports events, said assistant city information officer Francis Ric Machado.
He said some events of the water festival will be held at the Puerto Princesa City bay walk and at the city sports pool area at the Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex.
These are water fun run, juego de agua, futsal on February 28; water wars, water polo, spider boxing on March 1; banana boat challenge on March 2, and fire dance competition on March 3, the last day.
Machado said some of the festival events will not be relying on supply from the Puerto Princesa City Water District (PPCWD).
“Hindi rin naman lahat galing sa tap water kasi nga may mga game na gagamitin natin ‘yong bay natin, city bay, may mga game na nandyan sa city sports na pool so hindi naman lahat ay manggagaling from the tap water,” Machado said.
Machado said there is a noticeable increase of participants every year of the celebration and most of them are from the youth sectors and organizations.
There are also participants from the government sector such as uniformed personnel and barangay officials. Activities will be categorized to men, women and youth levels.
“Inaanyayahan natin ang ating mga kababayan na mag-participate at kung hindi sila makapag-participate ay pwede naman manood sa ating activities sa water festival. Ito ay magsisimula ng February 28 hanggang March 3, so yong gusto ng mga extreme challenges, gusto mabasa-basa habang mainit ang panahon ay magandang pagkakataon ito mag-bonding na rin with their friends,” he added.
