The city government closed its business hours early on Monday, urging its employees and officials to utilize their free time with their families in line with the commemoration of the 27th National Family Week.

City secretary Philip Jerome Hilario said the City Mayor’s Office (CMO) released Memorandum Circular No. 2019-40 stating that “all city government officials, department and assistant department heads, program and project managers, regular and coterminous employees and contract of service, and job order workers” of Puerto Princesa observe the Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day on September 23, 2019.

Hilario said this was pursuant to the Civil Service Commission (CSC)’s call to celebrate the 27th National Family Week aimed to strengthen family unity and relationship.

Dubbed as “Tungo sa maginhawa, matatag, at panatag na pamilyang Pilipino” the celebration started on Monday, September 23, and will end on September 28.

Councilor Matthew Mendoza, said he will have the time to fetch his kids from school before they have dinner together as a family.

“Iyong main purpose nila is to be with the family kaya ako susunduin ko sa school [ang aking mga anak]. Ang plano namin is most probably, magdi-dinner. Bonus na ito na binigyan tayo ng extra time aside pa sa Saturday and Sunday na weekend, at least may time tayo ngayon to spend more meaningful and quality time with our family. Kung wala ka mang anak, siyempre with mother or your siblings, para doon talaga ang araw na ito,” said Mendoza.

Councilor Elgin Damasco on the other hand said he will treat his family outside this afternoon.

“Kakain lang siguro sa labas. Ay alam mo naman ang trabaho namin, we are grabe ka-busy. So magandang pagkakataon din ito na mailabas sila, siguradong matutuwa sila kasi halos nasa trabaho na lang ‘yong daddy nila,” said Damasco.

Ex-officio member, Councilor Nestor Saavedra said he will spend his time to rest and treat himself, as his family is miles away from him.

“Siguro kakain lang sa labas. Sana pamilya ko [ang kasama ko] kaya lang nandoon kasi sa norte. Gusto ko sana talagang makasama kaya lang kung uuwi pa ako, tatakbo pa ako. Pahinga na lang kasi pagod na rin,” said Saavedra.

Councilor Jimmy Carbonell jested that employees should make sure they spend time only with their real families.

“Sana ay ‘yong totoong pamilya lang ang kasama ha. Sa ating mga kaibigan [diyan], ‘yong ating tunay na pamilya ‘yong ating kasama,” Carbonell said.
