The city government launched Saturday its P99,864,000-urban street lighting project covering barangays San Pedro and San Manuel.
Mayor Lucilo Bayron said Monday during the flag ceremony at the City Hall that the project will light up Libis Road in Brgy. San Pedro, BM Road, and other public roads in Brgy. San Manuel.
“Gagamit ng smart lights, ‘yong ilaw ba na nako-control ng computer, puwedeng palakasan-pahinaan para ma-prolong ‘yong life ng bumbilya at the same time maka-save ng kuryente ang City Government of Puerto Princesa,” Bayron said.
Bayron said the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) will be the contractor and Philips Lighting will install the bulbs.
The mayor said MERALCO will be in charge of the civil works.
“Ang bumbilya ng Philips ito ay high-end. Ito ay pang-highly urbanized city talaga. Kasi ‘yong mga ilaw na ikakabit ay tinatawag na smart light na puwedeng kontrolin ng computer kung papalakasan ba siya o pahihinaan,” he said.
He also said the city government can save in terms of energy consumption as the computers will dim the lights when Puerto Princesa streets are no longer busy at night.
The fund for the project will be sourced from the 20 percent development fund of 2018.
A total of 688 automatic light bulbs (City Touch), and another 52 manual (Road Flair) bulbs will be installed within the 24 public roads of San Pedro and San Manuel.
Bayron said he plans to install the same technology in all the public roads in the city with the same service.
Engr. Aries Grande, the acting assistant city engineer, said they intend to finish the project in November this year.
Grande said they will use the new technology that employs light emitting diodes (LED) connected to computers as the bulbs’ illumination controller.
The wires will all be installed underground, he said.
He added that it has an advanced technology that will use remote sensing to enable switching on and off its own, depending upon the outside condition and environment illumination.
“Mas matagal ‘yong life span ng mga ilaw. Ang gusto nga ni Mayor [Bayron] diyan ay mapailawan talaga lahat hanggang Sta. Lourdes, at sa side naman sa kabila, sa Irawan, [para] ‘yong mga madidilim natin na area na wala pang ilaw [ay] mapa-ilawan talaga,” Grande said.
