Over 2,500 teaching and non-teaching personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Puerto Princesa gathered Friday at the City Coliseum to celebrate their 23rd Founding Anniversary.
The celebration’s theme was #DepEd 2.3 loving, sharing, caring.
Gina Francisco, division information officer, said that the attendees were from different schools in the city.
The activities include Zumba dance and fun run attended by more than a thousand of DepEd personnel.
The fun run commenced at 6 a.m. from Robinsons Place Palawan to City Coliseum.
Francisco said that the proceeds of the event will be allotted for the reading materials of their mobile library project.
Aside from the fun run, they also had a lecture on financial literacy with Peter Sing as their keynote speaker.
After the talk, service and posthumous awards for 40 retired and deceased teachers were given in commemoration of their dedication to the division.
Another highlight of the program is the cultural presentation of the teachers from 19 clusters, which showcased their talents in singing, dancing and even delivering their own written poems.
They also had a raffle draw for all teachers who had a chance to win one sack of rice, mountain bike and a flat screen television as prizes for the lucky winners.
Francisco also mentioned that the founding anniversary is usually celebrated during the 5th and 6th of September but this time they chose to celebrate it for one day because of the lessons that they need to cope after the week-long Batang Pinoy games.
During the one day event, the City Parent-Teachers Association (P.T.A.) Federation was seen giving their full efforts, wearing their uniforms to support the activity.
Maria Teresa Alisla, PTA Federation treasurer, said that they are in full support of the activities of the City DepEd, this time extending their help in preparing the foods and snacks of the attendees.
“Dito sa DepEd day, ang suporta ng PTA ay buo, talagang full support kami sa celebration ng DepEd day, kasi nga ang ibig sabihin ng PTA is Parents Teachers Association, so we support each other, ang suporta naman ng PTA ngayon sa celebration nila is ‘yon nga sa pagkain nila, naghanap kami ng mag-cacater, yong mga schools na gustong magpacater, kami ‘yong namimigay, nagdidistribute ng foods nila,” she said.
Francisco said in behalf of the City DepEd they are expressing their gratitude for the celebration and explained how City DepEd changed throughout the years.
“Marami talagang nagbago sa City DepEd, simula sa 1st year ng pag-create sa kanya hanggang ngayom marami ng nagpalit palit na administrators, patuloy na dumadami ang schools at umaangat ang quality ng education na ibinibigay natin dito, masaya po kami,” she said.
