Tropical depression ‘Chedeng” is expected to weaken into a low pressure area (LPA) by  Wednesday as it crosses Palawan, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Monday.

Sonny Pajarilla, PAGASA- Palawan chief, said that if Chedeng would continue to cross in Palawan as an LPA, this will bring rain to help ease the water supply shortage in the city.

“In terms of threats sa bagyo, hindi na yan banta pagdating sa atin dahil manghihina ‘yan. In fact, it is going to be a welcome development dahil pwede siya magpaulan, sana nga ay makatawid siya bilang low pressure para magdulot siya ng ulan sa atin dahil kailangan na natin ng ulan,” Pajarilla said.

Chedeng is expected to hit land near Davao Oriental on Tuesday morning.

The tropical depression is at 650 kilometers and moving towards the western side.

‘Chedeng’ is a weak tropical depression that could be dissolved once it hits land.

Pajarilla added that Chedeng would cross Palawan Wednesday afternoon as a low pressure system. This has the potential to bring rain showers mainly in southern Palawan.

Fishermen are advised not to go out to the Sulu Sea near Mindanao due to the existence of crossing LPA on Wednesday.

There is a 60 percent chance  Palawan will experience on Wednesday that will last until Thursday morning, he said.

Aside from Chedeng, PAGASA is also monitoring a cloud cluster which is now still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).  This is expected to move towards Mindanao  before the end of March.
