As one of the many support lined up for the communities during this pandemic, Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC) donated one hundred sacks of rice and canned goods to the municipality of Balabac as part of its relief efforts for affected residents under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The donation was turned over to Danny Boy Harani of Emergency Operation Center Officer and concurrent Tourism Officer of Balabac on April 29.

Harani said that CBNC was the first to extend help to the town of Balabac.

Balabac mayor Shuaib J. Astami extended his gratitude to the effort of the company through a letter.

“Our sincerest thanks for helping us and the people of Balabac in this challenging time. We owe you and your company a big heart by showing your concern and love for our people who are in need of help during this difficult time,” Astami wrote.

He added that providing relief assistance to the residents of Balabac is challenging as many reside in island barangays. Difficulty in rice supply is also a problem in the town as it is being sourced outside Balabac.

Meanwhile, the municipality is now on its second tranche of providing relief assistance to their residents to cope with the crisis due to pandemic.
