Farmers from Barangay Tarusan are now benefiting from the flood control project constructed by the Coral Bay Nickel Corporation in the said barangay.
The flood control structure is a concrete mini-dike with a removable floodgate to control the volume of water. The project was constructed at a budget of P850,000.
It is now ready for turn over after nearly three months of construction. The project is part of the Social Development and Management Program of Coral Bay Nickel Corporation.
Tarusan Farmers Association who dreamed about this project said, “Kampante na kami ngayon. Hindi na kami kakabahan sa tuwing malakas ang ulan. Hindi na babahain ang mga palayan namin.
(“We are now at peace. We will not feel nervous every time heavy rains set on. Our rice fields will not be flooded anymore.”)
The flood control project is just one of the several projects of CBNC in Barangay Tarusan that seeks to unburden the plight of the farmers.
“With this project, we hope to lessen the problem of our farmers in Barangay Tarusan. I hope through this project, the harvest of our farmers will greatly improve. And this is really our call in community relations office to assist the community in a way to make their life better,” said Ernesto A. Llacuna, community relations manager of CBNC.
Barangay Captain James Aguirre, expressed his gratitude to CBNC for the project and stated that, “The company has helped us a lot, and this project is really one that is really beneficial especially to the farmers,” said Aguirre.
