The Department of Social Welfare and Development has begun distributing cash grants to beneficiaries of the government’s various social pension programs in Brooke’s Point as a pilot area.
Department officials said some 835 beneficiaries from three barangays have so far been paid cash grants of P2,400 each under its Unconditional Cash Transfer Program, which was given as a one-time payout. The program is targeting a total of 988 beneficiaries.
The UCT grants cover beneficiaries of both the DSWD’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and Listahanan.
Bacosa also said they are looking at ways to transfer their budget allocation for the program to Landbank of the Philippines which directly releases the payment to beneficiaries in order to facilitate the payouts starting next year.
“Magkakaroon uli ng pag-uusap ang DSWD at Landbank para maayos na ang scheduling ng pay out sa buong MIMAROPA actually ‘yon. So malamang magkakaroon ng regional schedule at provincial schedule,” Bacosa said.
She said they decided to pilot the system in Brooke’s Point because of its positive performance in the previous implementation of the program.
She said the program was designed to cushion the impact of rising prices and cost of living among the poor.
“Ito ay inaasahan natin na makakatulong sa kanila kasi sila ay naapektuhan sa pagtaas ng mga presyo ng mga pangunahing bilihin,” Bacosa said.
