The provincial government has secured a P50 million fund to finance its medical scholarship program for Palaweños who are aspiring to become doctors.
The Provincial Information Office (PIO), in a statement issued Tuesday, said Palawan Governor Jose Alvarez has concurred and signed Ordinance No. 2627 on August 16 which aims to guarantee a multi-year budget for the province’s goal of producing more physicians.
Also known as “Programang Pang-Edukasyon para sa Palawan,” the initiative provides the granting of scholarships to all Palaweños who want to pursue a medical degree or other medical-related courses.
The measure also seeks to guarantee that the province has enough physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals to keep the province’s 16 hospitals running smoothly.
In the province, there are presently 13 newly-opened hospitals that are actively offering medical services.
As of 2020, 33 Palaweños have completed their medical degrees and are now serving as doctors, providing services in various hospitals in Palawan.
