CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The city government of Calapan through the City Agricultural Services Department (CASD) recently distributed 250 bags of certified seeds and 326 bags of fertilizers to farmers who were affected by floods caused by Typhoon Usman last December.
The certified seeds are granted by the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Provincial Agriculture Office (PAgO) of Oriental Mindoro. The fertilizers are supplementary aid of the city government to farmers.
Mayor Arnan C. Panaligan said the distribution of seeds and fertilizers to farmers is under the city’s Rice Production Program anchored to Angat Kabuhayan sa Agrikultura Program or AKAP, which prioritizes farmers affected by the recent storm.
AKAP is one of the flagship programs of LGU-Calapan for the past three years with the following components: Integrated Focused Food Production Program, City Seed Production Project to be undertaken by the Youth in Agriculture, City Urban Agriculture Program (Greening Calapan City), Rice Subsidy Project, City Organic Fertilizer Production Project, Livestock Production Project, Tilapia Fishery Production Project, Farm to Market Road Construction Project, Communal Irrigation Project (Patubig sa Palayan) and Farm Mechanization and Post-harvest Facilities Project.
City Agriculturist Lorelein Sevilla said the there are designated agriculturists in the barangays who identified the deserving beneficiaries.
The barangays who received the seeds in Calapan City were: Sta. Isabel, Bayanan I, Gutad, Nag-Iba 2, Canubing 2, Baruyan, Puting Tubig, Gulod, Personas, Comunal, Bayanan 2, Patas, Managpi, Sapul, Bucayao, Batino, Camansihan, Sta. Cruz, Nag-Iba 1, Masipit, Tawiran, Sta. Rita, Malad, Palhi and Guinobatan. (LTC/PIA-Mimaropa/Calapan)
