Calamian power corp donates 8 MRFs to Busuanga

Coron Mayor Barracoso with CIPC Plant Manager Leo Coton and CIPC EHS Officer Audie Ponce, together with their support staffs, inspect the CIPC built MRFs.

The Calamian Islands Power Corp. (CIPC), Busuanga Island’s sole power provider, recently donated eight Materials Recovery Facilities (MRF) to Coron in support of its sustainable environmental protection initiatives.

The CIC said that with over 52,000 residents living in 23 barangays, Coron is in need of the MRFs in compliance with Republic Act 9003 or the”Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000,” which prescribes proper solid waste management.

MRF units co-designed by Coron LGU, DENR, EMB and built by CIPC

The CIPC said the provision of the MRFs to Coron under the administration of Mayor Ajerico Barracoso was in coordination with Engr. Jess Arevalo of the Coron Waste Management Department (CWMD), the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for the design of the MRFs, and other local government leaders.

The CIPC turned over the MRFs to the Coron municipal government on July 2, 2018, after they were installed in strategic locations around town.

CIPC Plant Manager, Leo Coton receives a Plaque of Appreciation from Honorable Mayor Barracoso and representatives from Barangays 1 to 5 as well as the Coron Tourist Boat Association.

The CIPC said it will remain committed to supporting the sustainable development projects of the Coron and Busuanga LGUs and the rest of the Calamian group of islands. (PR)
