Brooke’s Point wants Brgy. Maasin as site of proposed Capitol in Palawan del Sur

In an interview with Palawan News, Feliciano said early this week that Governor Jose Alvarez called them to a meeting in January to discuss the site for the future Capitol and the international airport that will be built in Brooke’s Point.

BROOKE’S POINT, Palawan — Mayor Mary Jean Feliciano is proposing Barangay Maasin to be the future site of the Capitol Building for Palawan del Sur if the move to create three provinces succeeds.

In an interview with Palawan News, Feliciano said early this week that Governor Jose Alvarez called them to a meeting in January to discuss the site for the future Capitol and the international airport that will be built in Brooke’s Point.

The Capitol site, based on the provincial government’s proposal, will be constructed in the area being occupied now by the office of the Ipilan Nickel Corporation (INC).

Feliciano said that based on the plan she had seen, the Capitol that will be built will cost around P700 million and will be considered “the most beautiful” in the country.

It will be a 7-storey Capitol that will be constructed in a 100-hectare property to be the center of municipal and national offices. It will have a botanical garden, a big auditorium, a sports complex, a domestic airport, and a governor’s mansion.

She said the botanical garden will be as natural as possible since Maasin is known for its first growth forests.

Feliciano said if the creation of three provinces pushes through, it will have a huge advantage for this town as it will further boost its development.

On February 3, during the flag ceremony, Feliciano also encouraged the residents of Brooke’s Point to help campaign for the “yes vote” in the plebiscite that will be held on May 11, 2020, in Palawan.
