Brooke’s Point Mayor Mary Jean Feliciano recently challenged newly installed municipal police station Chief Insp. Randell Moreno Sabtula to increase the number of declared “drug-free” barangays in the municipality.
Feliciano expressed her objective during Sabtula’s courtesy call visit to her last June 25, 2018.
“May walo na tayong na declare na drug-cleared barangay dito sa bayan ng Brooke’s Point, and sana ay hindi lang walo kundi lahat ng barangay at buong bayan ng Brooke’s Point,” she said
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) had earlier declared several barangays in Brooke’s Point as drug-cleared after going through a phased clearing process determined by its oversight committee.
Mayor Feliciano also expressed concern over the cases of vehicular accidents in the municipality which had occurred due to drunk driving, and asked police authorities to help address the problem.
“Maraming nadidisgrasya dito sa bayan ng Brooke’s Point na ang kalimitang rason ay nagkabanggaan dahil lango sa alak ang nagmamaneho katulad na lang ng isang bagong teacher natin dito na namatay dahil sa nabangga ng lasing at nabagok,” Feliciano said.
Sabtula, in turn, committed to focus his efforts on the town’s campaign to stop illegal drugs and the prevention of road accidents.
