The municipality of Brooke’s Point celebrated its 70th founding anniversary with a showcase of various events from June 25th to 28th.
With a theme: “Balik tanaw sa kasaysayan, gabay sa pagsulong at ibayong pag-unlad ng bayan”, former House speaker Alfredo Abueg retold the history of Brooke’s Point.
Abueg said the town was formerly called Bonbon but it was named after the English explorer Sir James Brooke who discovered the town and helped the early settlers.
“Malaki na ang pagbabago ng Brooke’s Point. Dati wala pa halos mga bahay, walang mga establisyemento at hindi pa ganito, sobra ang pinagbago ng bayan,” he said.
Brooke’s Point is a first class municipality in southern Palawan known for its promotion of eco-tourism.
Mayor Mary Jean Feliciano also said it is important to know the history of the town where you came from.
“Mas maganda na marinig at malaman pa rin ang kasaysayan natin. Napakabless ng araw na ito dahil bihira lang natin marinig ang kasaysayan ng ating bayan,” she said.
As a part of the celebration, the local government of Brooke’s Point awarded plaques of recognition to the top bussiness and real property tax payers Agumil Palawan Incorporated, Mercury Drugs, Unitop General Merchandise Incorporated, Palawan Oil Incorporated, Ivymichelle Trading and Construction, Palawan Poultry and General Merchandise and New Hope Motors and Parts Supply.
The foundation day activities included a drum and lyre competition, Bangkasiyahan and a photo exhibit.
