An eleven-year-old boy survived a crocodile attack Wednesday afternoon at Sitio Tagpanasan, Barangay Salang in Balabac town.
Balabac Municipal Police Station (MPS) chief P/Lt. Nebuchadnezzar Matrio said the boy, whom he declined to identify, was riding a banca with his older sister across the sea when the crocodile attacked.
Matrio said the siblings were going back to the shore from their seaweed farm in Tagpanasan that afternoon when the incident happened.
“Galing sila doon sa seaweeds farm nila sa tanim nilang seaweeds. Pauwi na [sila] sa kanila, sa bahay nila. Nagsasagwan sila. Sila ng kaniyang kapatid na 16 years old. Dumaplos sa pagkaka-kagat [ng buwaya] ‘yong kamay niya, nahila niya ang kamay niya,” said Matrio.
Matrio said the boy sustained wounds and bruises on his right arm, but still managed to escape and row the boat to the shore.
The boy was brought immediately to the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Balabac for first aid treatment.
“Okay naman [na siya], pinauwi rin matapos magamot sa center,” said Matrio.
He said this was the fourth crocodile attack recorded in Balabac for the year 2019.
Matrio said of all those four separate attacks, two victims managed to survive.
