A boatman died Saturday after swimming in Kayangan Lake in Barangay Banuang Daan, Coron, a police official said.

Palawan Provincial Police Office (PPO) information officer Senior Insp. Ric Ramos identified the victim in a spot report Monday as 23-year old Basil T. Aguilar of Barangay Marcilla, Coron town.

The spot report claimed Aguilar drowned on January 26 at around 4:00 p.m. while he was swimming with his guests and co-boatman Sammy P. Melgar in Kayangan Lake, a famous tourist spot in Coron.

“Sammy Melgar saw the victim lying under the water, prompting him to seek help and assistance from their guests,” the report said.

Search and rescue authorities brought Aguilar to the Coron District Hospital (CDH) where he was declared dead on arrival (DOA) by an attending emergency doctor.

Ramos said a post mortem examination will still be conducted to fully determine the cause of his death.

“Depende pa ‘yan sa autopsy report kung ano ang cause of death talaga (The cause of death still depends on the autopsy report that will be conducted),” Ramos said.
