A Palawan board member called on local government units (LGUs) in the province to install fire hydrants in public places.

Board Member Eduardo Modesto Rodriguez, in a privilege speech Tuesday, said fire hydrants are needed in areas where many people converge because they are vulnerable to fires.

Water should be available in commercial establishments, public markets, and other government offices.

“Ngayon ay pahanon na ng tag-init kaya sana maiwasan ang sunog. Importante rin na may available source of water lalo na sa mga area na marami ang light materials,” he said.

He said the installation of fire hydrants should always be considered in the planning of LGUs.

Earlier, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that 53 fire incidents were already recorded from January up to the first week of March, which is higher than the 24 fire incidents last year.
