The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Puerto Princesa City Jail (BJMP-PPCJ) led a cleanup drive in Purok Abanico Sea Side, Barangay San Pedro on Saturday.
Pearl Famarin, PPCJ assistant community relations service (CRS) officer, said the cleanup drive will be a monthly activity in the city’s different barangays.
“This will be part of our efforts to inform communities about the importance of cleaning up, especially that we have collected many plastics,” Famarin said.

The coastal cleanup drive is also part of the effort of the agency’s new director, Jail Chief Superintendent Allan Iral.
Some 20 personnel and village watchmen or tanods joined the event.
She also called on city residents to do their share in cleaning the shores of Puerto Princesa.
The people must not depend only on BJMP’s cleanup activities, but also ensure their own communities are clean, she added.
“Hindi naman puwedeng maging dependent na may naglilinis na mga agencies katulad sa amin, hindi naman puwede na aasa na lang. Everyone’s concern naman iyan. Maging aware po tayo na ang lugar nating tinitirahan ay mas maganda kung malinis, at saka magiging healthy rin tayo,” Famarin said.
