The Bureau of Internal Revenue’s (BIR) Palawan district office recently announced it is set to receive an ISO 9001 certification, a global standard for management.

Lorenzo Delos Santos, revenue district officer (RDO), said their ISO certification was preceded by an audit conducted by TUV Rheinland on May 28.

He said the Palawan District Office 36 is expected to receive its ISO 9001 certification for its Quality Management System in July.

The certification means its services are at par with world standards, Delos Santos said.

“Iyong requirement ng world standard ay talagang napakataas. With the ISO, magkakaroon tayo ng possibility na baka maiangat natin kahit papaano ‘yong customer satisfaction,” he pointed out.

Delos Santos added that the ISO 9001 certification of BIR is also in compliance with the Ease of Doing Business Law and the Anti-Red Tape Act (ARTA).

He also said that the standard will mean minimal mistakes in delivering services to the public.

“It’s not only the facilitation ito, we need to have the quality din naman ng service. Kahit anong bilis mo kung hindi naman quality ‘yong nase-serve, mali-mali naman. It must be efficient and effective pa, on our side mami-minimize ‘yong mali kasi we will now have the standard,” he added.

For the taxpayers, they will also be aware of the standard that must be followed, he said adding that “every taxpayer will be given equal services, not just those who know someone inside the office.”

Delos Santos said that he is proud that the RDO No. 36 is the first RDO outside Metro Manila that would be ISO certified.

After the ISO certification is given to RDO No. 36, we will continuously upgrade the services and improve every day, he said.

Validation will also be conducted to ensure if the ISO certified office has continuously improved and complied with its mandate to follow the standard, he said.

“Based on the ISO, kung ano ang nagawa mo to enhance ‘yong supposed to be standard, doon makikita ‘yon sa validation period,” he added.
