Its a go for Puerto Princesa City Mayor Lucilo Bayron in his reelection bid in the 2019 midterm polls.
This developed after his doctor gave him a clean bill of health.
City administrator Atty. Arnel Pedrosa said Wednesday to Palawan News that Bayron was informed by his physician “a week or two ago” that he is already in better health condition, capable to cope with the demands of public service.
He said the mayor has said that his doctor gave “99 percent assurance” that he can “handle the stress of campaigning, including the challenges of the position if ever.”
He added that the mayor only wanted to be honest about his health before he runs again.
“Si mayor gusto niya healthy siya, na sa paglilingkod niya ay kaya niyang gampanan ‘yong pagiging mayor,” he said.
However, Pedrosa clarified that he has no firsthand knowledge on the specific illness of Bayron.
What I know is it is due to aging, he pointed out.
Pedrosa said that despite this recent development, no one in the mayor’s team knows when his daughter Raine Bayron would withdraw her candidacy for the same position his father will seek reelection.
Five candidates including Raine are contesting the mayorship of Puerto Princesa City against the incumbent mayor.
Raine filed her Certificate of Candidacy under the National People’s Coalition (NPC) affiliate Partidong Pagbabago ng Palawan (PPP), 10 minutes before the closing of the final day of filing on October 17.
Earlier, in an interview with Radyo Bandera, Raine assured the public that there will only be one Bayron who will run in the mayoralty race.
“Isang Bayron lang ang tatakbo… Hindi substitution ang mangyayari sa amin. May mag-wi-withdraw na isa sa huli. Ang pagwi-withdraw naman ay anytime ‘yan,” the younger Bayron said.
