Bataraza’s municipal government along with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) local office benefited 228 students from its Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) for this year.
Engr. Alma Valledor, chief of the Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO), said they allocated P765,000 as counterpart SPES fund for the students who were hired from May 3-31, 2019.
She said the total number was composed of 120 high school and 108 college students.
Around 98 students are new to the program while 130 are considered “SPES babies”, or those who have already availed previously.
Valledor said the daily rate for the SPES beneficiaries was P200 or P4,000 for 20 days.
They were assigned to different municipal government offices where they learned about ethics at work, proper work attitude, and others which they can apply later when they graduate and hired in jobs.
A simple graduation ceremony for the SPES beneficiaries was held on May 31.
Bataraza Vice Mayor Kennedy Jaafar said next year, they hope to hire more students to benefit from the program.
