Thirty-three senior high school graduates from Bataraza town took the qualifying examinations on June 2 for the Development of Mining Technology and Geosciences (DMTG) Program to vie for limited scholarship slots sponsored by Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC).

Wilbern Blitz Paeste, Mining Technology and Geosciences (MTG) officer, said on Tuesday that only two to three scholars will be selected to take up limited courses related to mining and environment.

“Part kasi siya ng Development of Mining Technology and Geosciences Program for 2019-2023, two to three scholars will be selected from 33 applicants which is good for four years. Hopefully, kung sino’ng nag-start sila na rin ‘yong mag-e-end,” he said.

The selected scholars can take up any course such as geology, environmental engineering, and any of the related courses.

The scholars will do their undergraduate thesis in collaboration with RTN aimed at producing innovations from the students.

“Hopefully, meron silang early on-the-job training like five days technical training lang sa geology or sa discipline na kinuha nila. OJT wise, meron na rin silang OJT kapag nakuha nila yong scholarship, sa RTN nila i-spend yon. Undergraduate thesis nila must be in collaboration with RTN syempre so we can get innovations from the students,” he pointed out.

The result of the examinations will be evaluated when it is released within this week, he added.
