Members and officers of six cooperatives being assisted by Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation and Coral Bay Nickel Corporation have participated in the recently concluded Cooperative Congress held in Bgy. Port Barton, San Vicente.
Angela Molino, chairperson of Ocayan Farmers Producers Cooperative (OFAPCO), said that they were enlightened about cooperative management as well as government’s objective in forming cooperatives in the country.
“Nagpapasalamat kami na naisama kami sa cooperative congress, lalong nabigyang linaw at dagdag ideya kung ano ba ‘yong kooperatiba. Nadagdagan din ng mga kaalaman namin para mas mapaayos at mapabuti pa ang aming kooperatiba dito sa Bataraza,” Molino said.
The Northern Palawan Cooperative Congress discussed various concerns of cooperativism and its role in bringing people together towards a common goal. It also tackled the opportunities and prospects of tourism industry for cooperatives in Palawan and the need to have a continuing education among officers and members of coops.
The Congress also showcased the success stories of various cooperatives to share their lessons with others.
The six cooperatives from Bataraza that attended the Congress were OFAPCO, Iwahig Farmers Producers Cooperative (IFAPCO), Sandoval Farmers Producers Cooperative (SANFAPCO), Sapa Farmers Producers Cooperative (SFPC), Tarusan Farmers Producers Cooperative (TAFPCO) and Taratak Agri-based Producers Cooperative (TABAPCO).
“It is our goal to involve our PO’s (people’s organization) in this kind of conference as it could be there avenue to their success and even at times when the mining firms have closed. At mas mamumulat sila at matututunan nila ang importansya at kapakinabangan ng kooperatiba sa kanila,” Reynaldo Dela Rosa, Community Relations Manager of RTNMC said.
