A barangay councilor from Barangay Malitub, Bataraza was arrested Tuesday for indiscriminately firing his gun.

Police Senior Master Sergeant (PSMS) Norman Jerson Nicolas, municipal executive senior police officer of the Bataraza Municipal Police Station (MPS) identified the suspect as Arasad Hussein Kani, 58.

According to Nicolas, the incident happened after Kani confronted Ebno Jadjuli, Malitub barangay treasurer, about the delay in the release of salaries of some barangay tanods.

“Ang pinagmulan ay ‘yong sinasabing pa-sweldo sa barangay. Pinuntahan ng suspek si treasurer para komprontahin sa suweldo pero sabi sa kanya hindi niya alam at tanungin si secretary kung bakit ganoon na [may ibang hindi nasuwelduhan],” he said.

Kani and Jadjuli allegedly had an argument but Kanj left and went back to Jadjuli’s house to look for him but only Jadjuli’s wife, Jarma was around.

Upon knowing that Jadjuli was not in his house, Kani drew his gun, pointed it upwards and fired two times.

“Umuwi ‘yong suspek tapos later on bumalik may sukbit ng baril. Nakita ‘yon ng asawa ni treasurer, pagkatapos tinanong niya kung asan si treasurer, ang sabi ay wala. Binunot niya ‘yong baril, tinutok sa taas at ipinutok,” Nicolas said.

Witnesses reported the incident to Malitub barangay chairman Amar Sariol who called the police station.

After verifying the information received, the police responded and arrested Kani in his house.

Recovered from him was a caliber .45 pistol with three magazines and eight ammunition.
