Additional employees are expected to be deployed to the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) once Congress approves the request of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
BuCor director-general Nicanor Faeldon said the agency recruited 1,000 personnel in 2019 and will recruit an additional 1,500 in 2020.
“We have requested Congress to approve an additional 1500 next year, we just recruited 1000 this year and then additional 1,500 next year. With that number we can more or less double the current personnel manning Iwahig by next year after we have requited another 1, 500,”Faeldon said.
He said he hopes the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Civil Service Commission will also ‘conquer’ with the Congress for additional recruitment of personnel.
The IPPF currently has 265 personnel deployed in the central colony and to its sub- colonies in Montible, Inagawan, and Sta. Lucia.
The Palawan-based prison facility has about 2, 800 persons inmates.
