Aborlan beauty Reyna Michelle Ruhen was crowned Mutya ng Palawan 2018 during Friday’s coronation night held at the People’s Amphitheater, Mendoza Park in Puerto Princesa City.
Ruhen bested 18 other beauty candidates representing other towns in the weeklong search that was one of the highlights of the ongoing Baragatan Festival 2018.
Mutya ng Palawan 2017 Rhea Sadang turned over the crown to 18-year old Ruhen at the culmination of the coronation event that was also witnessed by thousands of Palaweños on live social media broadcast.
Emerlyn Traballo (Taytay) won first runner-up while Mutya ng Cuyo Almina Marie Quilala was second runner-up.
The other winners were: Princess Jean Batalla (Kalayaan), Mutya ng Palawan Tourism; and Ina Louise Abello (San Vicente), Mutya ng Palawan Eco-Tourism.
“We must continue to love and protect our nature. That is the only thing that we’re made to do, love and protect nature,“ Ruhen stated during the Question and Answer portion of the event.
She also highlighted the Palaweños’ love of nature and mentioned the practice of 5Rs as answer to the question.
“We must practice the 5Rs, which are reduce, reuse, refuse, respect and recycle,” she added.
Aside from the title, she also won the awards for Best in Swimsuit, Miss Cignal HD, Bang’s Hair and Body Salon Choice Award, Ms. Kay’s Water World and Ms. Palawan News 2018.
Ruhen, an incoming freshman taking up Political Science at the Palawan State University, said she plans to continue her advocacy on HIV-AIDS awareness and conducting seminars and activities for the youth.
“Ngayon po sinisimulan ko na ang HIV-AIDS awareness at pagka-conduct ng mga seminars and activities sa mga kabataan para malayo sila sa maling landas and syempre po paghahandaan natin ang national pageant natin kung meron man at ganon din po syempre focus muna tayo sa studies.”
The Mutya ng Palawan 2018 was hosted by actor Robi Domingo and Binibining Pilipinas 2nd runner-up, Samantha Bernardo.
