Environment and police authorities arrested nine fishermen for illegal fishing in the seawaters of Araceli and Linapacan in two operations this week.
The fishermen allegedly used air compressors, a violation of Republic Act 8550 or the Fisheries Code of the Philippines of 1998.
Senior Insp. Ric Ramos said were arrested with the help of the Bantay Dagat within the municipal waters of Barangay Calandagan, Araceli and Barangay Maruyog-ruyog, Linapacan.
The suspects were identified as Mario D. Malagad, 37, motorized boat owner and skipper, and his crew identified as Jose P. Paquibot, 48; Norberto L. Mahinay, 38; Louie L. Mahinay, 23; Jerry M. Bendero, 38; Wilmer V. Quambot, 32; and Crispolo Ramos, 36, all residents of Barangay Paly, Taytay, Palawan.
Seven of them were arrested on the evening of September 12 in Calandagan while the two others were arrested in on the morning of September 13 in Maruyog-ruyog.
The fishermen were engaged in illegal fishing with the use of air compressor as a breathing apparatus in gathering marine products which is also a violation of the municipal ordinance of Araceli.
The are now under the temporary custody of the Araceli Municipal Police Station.
