"Let us light up the city." - City Mayor Lucilo Bayron

The city government is gearing to light up the entire Puerto Princesa urban area which will need around 7,000 light bulbs and posts with P700-P800 million budget.

City Mayor Lucilo Bayron said Wednesday there are already around 3,000 lights installed. But to cover up the whole poblacion area, around 7,000 more is needed.

He said that based on their computation, P700 to P800 million is needed to run the project.

“We will need about 10,000 bulbs and posts, ngayon ay mayron na tayong existing na around 3,000 (lights and posts) kaya kulang nalang ng 7,000.

Almost P700 to P800 million pa ang kailangan, kaya sabi ko sige go na ‘yan, let us light up the city,” he said.

Bayron said that the lighting project will start in barangays Irawan and Sta. Lourdes down to the city center.

“Let us spend P700 to P800 million para mapailawan na ang buong poblacion, from barangay Irawan down to poblacion and the other one from Barangay Sta. Lourdes papunta dito, para maganda na ang buong lungsod ng Puerto Princesa,” Bayron said.

In July, the city government completed its street lighting projects in barangays San Pedro and San Manuel, spending some P99.8 million.

Bayron said it took around five months after they started installing 740 LED bulbs in the two barangays. He also vowed to speed up the same projects in other barangays.

“Mahigit 7,700 bulbs ang kailangan natin [to meet this target]. Ngayon nasa 740 pa lang tayo so that is about 10 percent. Kung 10 percent ang gagawin natin sa three years, di natin kaya. So ira-rush natin,” he said.
