A six-year-old girl has drowned in a private swimming pool place in Purok Palawan Cherry, Barangay Sicsican.

The city police said the incident happened on Sunday (February 17) evening  at Romy’s Place and Pool and all efforts to resuscitate the little girl identified only as alias “Sabinnah” failed.

Police Chief Inspector Reginald Pagulayan, chief of the Puerto Princesa City Police Office (PPCPO) Station 2, said Sabinnah was a Grade 1 student of the Sicsican Elementary School and a resident of Purok Mahogany.

Based on their initial investigation, Pagulayan said at around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sabinnah asked permission from her mother to go to her grandmother’s house nearby.

But Sabinnah did not go to her grandmother’s place, she went instead to Romy’s Place and Pool where a cousin was celebrating his birthday.

Pagulayan said her uncle Joseph Marcelo and some emergency rescue personnel of the Kilos Agad Action Center (KAAC) tried to revive Sabinnah but to no avail.

The KAAC rushed her to the Palawan Adventist Hospital (PAH) but she was declared dead on arrival (DOA) by the attending emergency doctor.

Meanwhile, Julie Zulueta, one of the barangay security personnel (tanod) who responded to the incident, said it was reported to them around 6:40 p.m.

“Doon pa lang sa area wala na talaga, ginagawa na lahat para ma-revive siya. May nag-CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) na pero wala na,” Zulueta said.

Zulueta said the owner of the pool is willing to extend assistance to the family of the victim.

“Sabi naman ng may-ari willing silang magbigay ng tulong sa pamilya,” she said.

Zulueta said Romy’s Place and Pool has two lifeguards which made it difficult for them to think about why Sabinnah would drown.

She said the owner of the place refused to comment regarding the incident.

“Mayron naman doon [lifeguard]. Tinanong ko pa nga ang may-ari kung bakit nagkaganoon,” she said.

Zulueta said the owner did not reply to her question.
