3MBde distributes burgers to frontliners against COVID-19

The 3rd Marine Brigade (3MBde) in partnership with Golden Arches Development Corporation (GADC), operator of the McDo fast food in Puerto Princesa, has started distributing 5,000 beef burgers to workers and volunteers manning COVID-19 quarantine control points in the city.

Persons deprived of liberty (PDL) at the Puerto Princesa City Jail (PPCJ) were also given their share to augment their meals during the crisis.

Brigadier General Nestor Herico, 3MBde commander, said Golden Arches contacted them to carry out the project, citing that its aim is to provide food aid to people serving the frontlines against the spread of the dreaded virus in the city.

“McDonald’s contacted us that they have such commodities since we got a lot from them. The goal of the donor is to help alleviate the plight of the public during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ),” Herico said.

Herico said those that were distributed Monday were prepared by a restaurant whose help they sought to cook the burgers.

He said because of the volume of the burger donation, they will be distributing them to more frontline workers until Tuesday.

“We sought the assistance of one restaurant owner in the city to help us cook the burgers. Happy kami that he accommodated our request. He even offered us the services of his chef to cook the burgers and his staff to pack and prepare them for distribution,” he said.

“We have the good intention of sharing it with other members of the law enforcement agencies, and even the doctors and nurses of the Ospital ng Palawan (ONP), and also the patients in the hospital,” Herico added.

The burger donations were distributed to members of the Philippine National Police, Baywalk barangay security force, medical personnel and staff of the Coop Hospital, ONP, Camp General Artemio Ricarte Station Hospital, Adventist Hospital Palawan, and city traffic enforcers.

Incidentally, the 3MBde also partnered with the city government in the distribution of bags of rice for 230 households in Barangay New Panggangan and 264 in Brgy. Marufinas.
