The National Food Authority is now starting to unload the third shipment of 20,000 bags of imported rice which arrived at the port of Puerto Princesa City on Christmas Day, December 24.

Provincial grains authority manager Ma. Lewina Tolentino said the bags of imported rice were from Thailand to supply Palawan’s mainland towns.

“Dumating noong December 24, kaya lang ang problema lang natin ay baka magkaroon ng bad weather (The shipment arrived on December 24 but the problem was we thought there will be bad weather),” Tolentino explained why the NFA was late in unloading the shipment.

The third shipment is the last for the year 2018 for mainland areas in the province, she said. The first 20,000 bags arrived on July 22 and the second on September 23.

Coron town received the same volume of imported rice bags on August 28 which also answered for the supplies needed in the municipalities of Busuanga, Culion, and Linapacan.

The NFA assured Palawan has adequate rice supply until the end of the year.
