Some South East Asian (SEA) Games 2019 athletes flew to Puerto Princesa City to support the young players of the Batang Pinoy 2019 National Championships.
SEA Games Artistic gymnastics bets Reylan Cappellan, 26 years old; Justine Ace De Leon, 18; Jan Gwynn Timbang, 21; Rafael Ablaza, 22, and John Matthew Vergara, 20, arrived Tuesday to cheer on young athletes competing in the multi-sports events under 15-years-old.
Cappellan, who’s competing in the 2019 SEA Games in December, said they came to assist and advocate for their local government units (LGUs), but also to encourage all young athletes participating in Batang Pinoy hosted this year by Puerto Princesa City.
“Gusto namin matulungan ang bawat manlalaro na mag-pursige sa kanilang ginagawa kung saan sila ay maaari ring maging isa sa mga pambato ng Pilipinas para sa mga internasyonal na laban sa larong gymnastics,” Cappellan said.
In an exclusive Facebook message to Palawan News, Hidilyn Diaz, weightlifting champion in the 2018 SEA Games, also expressed her support to the young athletes.
“Batang Pinoy 2002 was my first weightlifting competition at ginanap ito sa Puerto Princesa rin. My message is you will never know what will happen to your future, like me I was just a kid, masaya lang makalaro at makasama sa laro then now nanalo na ko sa Olympics, Asian Games and SEA Games. Ipagpatuloy lang nila ginagawa nila, mag-aral at maglaro ng sports, mangarap ng mataas. Tiwala lang! Kaya niyo ‘yan!” Diaz said.
