Around 177 students recently signed their scholarship agreements with the Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) under its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP).

Venice Teresa Guian, community relations and SDMP Supervisor, said Friday that of the total number of scholars, 55 in college and 122 in high school and came from eight barangays in Bataraza town.

“Sana mahigitan nila ‘yong nasa policy namin na walang below 80. Sana ay mas mataas pa at magtuloy-tuloy nila hanggang matapos nila yong course,” Guian said.

The policies of the scholarship grant are included specified in the MOA signed by the scholars with their parents present.

Included in the agreement is the 30-hour allotment of scholars for one year for community service back in their barangays.

Guian added that scholars together with their parents were oriented on RTN’s practices on operations and rehabilitation, and on the environment and community development.

“Para magkaroon sila ng knowledge sa operation ng company, sa ginagawa ng kompanya, best practices para kung matanong sila at least aware sila,” she added.

The screening for scholars started in May until June which the Comrel have checked the general weighted average (GWA) of the applicants and undergone on examination and a series of interviews.
