Sixteen candidates will be competing for the first Miss Palawan crown during the Coronation Night at the Puerto Princesa City Coliseum on December 9.
Pageant producer Bong Villanueva said during a Thursday press conference that Miss Palawan Charities, Inc., (MPCI) will be supporting the candidates from the province who will compete in national pageants.
“Miss Palawan is divided into three — Miss Palawan Central which is Miss Puerto Princesa, Miss Palawan South, and Miss Northern Palawan,” Villanueva said.
The 16 candidates will represent different municipalities, academe institutions, and non-government organizations in the first year of the search.
During the press conference, candidates answered the questions from members of the media who will choose the winner of the “Darling of the Press” award.
MPCI will give three crowns for Miss Palawan Central as the queen title, followed by Miss Palawan North and Miss Palawan South.
Co-producer Maruj Avila Encoy said the pageant is also inspired by her personal advocacy to empower women, particularly solo parents and single mothers in the province.
“Gusto kong i-push ang benefits ng mga single mother. Pinu-push ko rin ang 20 percent discounts for solo parents. Dapat malaman ‘yan ng mga single mother and solo parent na may proposal na ganyan. After ng Miss Palawan, maglilibot kami sa mga municipality, ipapatawag namin yong mga single mother para malaman nila ang kanilang karapatan,” she said.
ABS-CBN artists Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla along with beauty queens Laura Lehmann, Miss World Philippines 2017 and Cynthia Tomalla, Miss Eco International 2017, are expected to be the special guests during the coronation night.
