WESCOM denies presence of Abu Sayyaf in Coron and east coast of Palawan

The Western Command assures that Palawan is safe from the presence of Abu Sayyaf

The Western Command is denying rumors and text messages currently circulating among the public regarding the supposed attempt of the rebel group Abu Sayyaf to penetrate the town of Coron, Palawan.

Lt. Col. Sonny Gonzales, acting spokesperson of WESCOM, vehemently denied such report in a press conference held today, April 19, at the WESCOM Headquarters in Puerto Princesa City.

Gonzales.

Despite such statement, all military units are nonetheless currently patrolling strategic points in the province.

Gonzales has also cautioned everyone to be extra mindful of people whose faces are not familiar in their area, particularly if their actions are somehow suspicious. He also advised the public to stay calm as the reports are still unconfirmed. However, he has called the cooperation of all sectors including resort owners.
