The Western Command (WESCOM) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) assured it will safeguard the security of residents in Kalayaan town, and that they have nothing to worry about amidst the simmering territorial row.
WESCOM Commander Vice Admiral Alexander Lopez still believes that the tension in the West Philippine Sea can be halted and pacified.
With the help of the provincial government, Lopez said the residents can expect support from them, especially when it comes to medical services and disaster response.
He said soldiers are still continuing to make rounds in the disputed region to ensure the protection of the country’s territory.
It can be noted that in the past weeks it was reported that a United States war ship was said to sail near the vicinity of WPS, which earned the ire of China.
