Some 38 fishermen from various parts of Southern Palawan, who were driven by tropical storm Vinta from Mangsee Island in Balabac to as far south as Mapun in Tawi Tawi last week and was rescued by the local government there, finally arrived back to their homes Saturday.

Abdelnasser Gregana, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Council Officer of Mapun, said the rescued fishermen were brought to Rizal town and from there were met by their relatives.

Gregana said they gave the fishermen medical attention upon their rescue in Cagayan de Tawi Tawi, as some of them had sustained injuries.

Bojie Lorenzo, MDRRMO of Rizal town, said the families of the rescued fishermen had waited for the survivors since Friday.

In fact, pag alis nga nila doon pinabaunan pa sila ng mga relief goods, mga pagkain,” he said.

Gregana said they are still conducting search and rescue around their area based on reports there were still many fishermen from Mangsee Island who got lost at sea.

“According to the investigation ay may mga kasamahan pa raw sila, so nagbabakasakali kami na baka napadpad rin dito sa amin,” he said.
