The US naval band that performed last week in two public venues and conducted music workshops in schools were ferried by a modern fast craft that has been a regular visitor to the city.
The USNS Millinocket, the US Navy fast sea transport craft, had been a regular participant in previous joint naval and military exercises between US and Philippine forces.
“Puerto Princesa is special to us because it is the place USNS Millinocket had been frequently,” Capt. Bernie Wang, 7th Fleet Assistant Chief of Staff, Plans and Theater Security Cooperation, told Palawan News on Saturday.
The modern naval vessel, which according to defense reviews can run at a top speed of 48 knots, carried the 8-man Far East Edition Band that is part of full brass 7th Fleet Band to the city last week for several performances and music workshops.
“We have visited our partners and allies in Southeast Asia,” Wang said.
He said that before coming to the Philippines, Millinocket also conducted port visits to Singapore and Malaysia where they also held community relation projects and band engagements.
