Tourist arrivals in Palawan up by 66%

Tourist arrivals in Palawan went up 66% this year, or over 1.4 million compared to 2014’s log of 900,000, according to the Provincial Tourism Office data relayed Tuesday by a Palawan board member.

In a resolution filed by Board Member Marivic Roxas, she lauded the administration of Palawan Governor Jose Alvarez for clinching for the second time this year the “Best Island in the World” Reader’s Choice Award by Conde Nast Traveler.

Roxas continued to express her admiration to the provincial government leadership for receiving the award, and besting 19 other destinations in the world.

Provincial Information Officer Gil Acosta Jr., on the other hand, said the governor, though grateful, was not surprised to be informed about the Conde Nast Traveler’s award.

He said Alvarez believes that the award is not the achievement alone of the provincial government, but also the municipal government units that do everything to ensure development in the tourism industry, the businesses, the civil society, and non-government organizations.
