The City Population Commission (Popcom) said they are stepping up their campaign on promoting responsible adolescence and sexuality awareness using the popular Facebook blog U4U which had been set up by the National Population Commission.
Maileen Sendaydiego, program manager, said the U4U page on FB aims to reach out to the broadest sector of teenagers nationwide that can access the online community. She added the U4U can also be contacted by phone.
“Itetext mo siya, tapos tatawag ang U4U, ito ay system operated tapos saka doon masasagot ng U4U yung questions. There will be choices kung anong issue ang pag-uusapan,” said Sendaydiego.
She said that the online community was created to address the problem of teenage pregnancy, by providing a venue for sexuality awareness and adolescence awareness.
“Mataas yung teenage pregnancy natin, so ginawa ito. This is for the adolescence and sexuality awareness,” Sendaydiego said.
The program is created as a “hub” for teenagers, and a venue to express their sentiments, as the online program also shares education videos about youths, sexuality and gender development.
“Walang adolescent na pupunta sa aming office para mag tanong about sexuality. Hindi rin lahat ng magulang ay ganon ka-open minded para tanungan mo ng sex kaya ito na-create,” Sendaydiego said.
However, she admitted that their office has not yet focused on the program for the year. But, will soon conduct a school to school information dissemination about sexuality awareness via U4U.
“Nagkaroon kami ng interest to conduct a training and awareness in U4U for out pf school youth and other schools. Pinaplano namin by 1st quarter by next year,” she said.
