Authorities are investigating the discovery in Cuyo town of approximately one kilogram of suspected cocaine wrapped in a plastic bag.

Cuyo Coast Guard Station commander, Ens. Merham Sajarani said the item was found washed ashore in the beach of Cuyo and was detected as an illegal substance by a trained sniffer dog.

“Positive [ito] as illegal substance pero hindi namin kaya ma-identify kung anong klaseng drug if based lang sa K9. Hindi natin ma-confirm kung ano ito specifically. But based on description and appearance niya, mukhang cocaine nga,” Sajarani said.

Senior Inspector Ric Ramos, provincial PNP information officer, said a laboratory examination had already been ordered to properly identify what kind of illegal drug the substance is.

“Sa side namin, kailangan muna na idaan sa laboratory test bago namin sasabihin kung ano ba itong nakitang powdery substance. After na mailabas ang result [of laboratory] bago lang rin namin ico-confirm kung positive ba ito as cocaine o any illegal substance,” Ramos told Palawan News.

Currently, the plastic bag of white power is in the custody of the PNP Crime Laboratory for further examination and proper disposition.
