The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Palawan has approved a resolution requesting Gov. Jose Chavez Alvarez to grant full scholarship program in college to graduates of Alternative Learning System (ALS) to ensure continuous learning until they finished college.
The author of the resolution Board Member Winston Arzaga said that majority of the students under the ALS program cannot afford to pay for basic school fees. This is why, if ever the provincial government implements the proposed program, it will be a big help to the youth to finish their studies and achieve their dreams.
The provincial government already granted scholarship to 38,000 college students of Palawan under the Programang Pang-Edukasyon Para Sa Mga Palaweńo ng Pamahalaang Panlalawigan. Most of them are students or have graduated from Palawan State University (PSU), Western Philippines University (WPU), Puerto Princesa School of Art and Trades (PPSAT) and Palawan Technical School.
Since education is one of the main thrusts of the current administration, the author is optimistic that the resolution will be approved by the governor and to be incorporated in the scholarship program.
