Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is now accepting new qualified applicants for its Bachelor of Science in Fisheries scholarship program.
Mario Basaya, BFAR- Palawan Officer-in-charge, said the beneficiary scholars will come from the top 10 of their Fisheries Industry Leaders competitive examinations and from children of fishermen covered by their Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant (FCEG).
The program is intended for the high school graduates who are suitable for the fishery courses.
“Marami naman kumukuha (fishery courses) kaya lang tulong kasi ito doon sa mga anak ng mga fisherfolks at alam naman natin tama lang ang kanilang kinikita. Karamihan sa mga anak nila hindi makapag-aral,” he said.
In the region, BFAR will accept three applicants for the FIL and 20 for the FCEG. Yet, miscellaneous and tuition fees are chargeable to the agency.
Scholars will also receive a book allowance amounting to P2,000 and P4,000 as monthly allowance. Moreover, during their 4th year, they will receive P7,000 for a thesis and P1,500 for graduation fee.
He added however that scholars are required to maintain at least a 2.75 grade.
The application’s deadline was set for January 30 while the 22nd competitive examination will be held on February 24.
