Rio Tuba Mining Corporation (RTNMC) is the current top corporate taxpayer in Palawan, trailed by Amanpulo Resort operator Seven Seas Resort and Leisures Corporation based in Cuyo.
The Bataraza-based mining firm received the distinction for the first time this year and was feted by the provincial government with a Governor’s Award during the Gabi ng Parangal ceremony on June 20 at the Provincial Capitol. The ceremony was held as part of the ongoing Baragatan Festival celebration.
RTNMC last year had paid some P13.9 million in real property tax to the province, an increase of some 35 percent from it previous year’s RPT payment of P8.9 million.
Seven Seas Resort and Leisures Corporation meanwhile retained its second place spot from last year.
Also making to the top five corporate tax payers were the Calamian Island Power Corporation, the Ten Knots Development Corporation that runs the El Nido Resorts, and its affiliate Ten Knots Phils. Inc.
The province also recognized the top five outstanding municipal treasurers based on their 2017 performance.
These were: Maximo Ardona of El Nido, Carlyn Bollos of Magsaysay, Wilma Lopot of Sofronio Espanola, Elsa Fedrez of Roxas and Luzviminda Palay of Taytay.
In the individual category, the top taxpayer was Orly Ong of Coron, followed by Edu Flisi, Bethel Marianna, Lus Chua, SPS Erlinda and Jose Jovellanos.
